Microplane |
In 1990 the original Microplane was invented merely as a new type of woodworking tool.
Four years on, a homemaker in Canada was making an Armenian orange cake. Out of frustration with her old grater, she picked up the woodworking tool, slid the orange across its blades and was amazed at how the zest fell from the surface like snowflakes. The Microplane grater then earned a permanent space in the kitchen.
Microplane as we now know it is a complete range of kitchen graters for every type of grating possible. Microplane graters' tiny razor-like edges are formed by a process called photo-etching in which holes are dissolved with a chemical, leaving edges that finely slice the food instead of tearing or shredding.

Alligator |
The Alligator was the idea of Swedish innovator Benny Engdahl, who grew tired of chopping onions when he was making his favourite dish - Öland dumplings filled with pork - requiring a large quantity of potatoes and onions.
Benny decided to design a simple product that would eliminate the usual mess and tears normally associated with chopping onions.
Benny Engdahl contacted his friend, graduate engineer Nikola Knezevic, who became responsible for the technical development of the product. Many prototypes were needed to find the right design, the right materials and in particular the right steel for the cutters, before the final product was ready for commercial launch in 2002. The Swedish patent was granted in October 2001.
Today the Alligator is patented all over the world and is an excellent kitchen aid! The concept is that one simple cutting action eliminates mess and fuss when chopping onions and other fruit or vegetables. The Alligator is so simple to use and just as easy to clean.
