Background: 
SMT, a machine tooling system company established in China in 1999, has been collaborating with DKSH for seven years. The Chinese market has become increasingly competitive with more players joining the same field. SMT is eager to establish its unique market position, differentiating itself from competitors and transforming into the leading “ultra-precision” manufacturer in the market.

Challenge: 
One of the industries SMT would like to focus on is the aerospace and aviation industry. The equipment manufacturing processes require extremely high-precision machining and finishing, despite the materials being even more difficult to manipulate than titanium alloy, due to their light weight and de-forming attributes. The customer tried many available solutions on the market, but they were unable to find one that could meet the stringent standards in this industry.

Approach/solution: 
DKSH and our clients provided an integrated solution to revolutionize SMT’s manufacturing process, involving two leading machine tool brands, KERN and Schaublin. KERN Triton helped SMT process workpiece with high efficiency by making 0.1mm holes precisely and reliably. Schaublin’s machines greatly reduced the production time of thin-wall parts cutting and harnessing. What used to take one week to complete can now be done in just 36 minutes and yet both machines can still guarantee that the products meet the industry’s strict standards. DKSH engineers provided training to SMT employees on how to fully optimize and utilize the machines. To further promote SMT’s brand visibility and capabilities in the market, DKSH organized an “Open House Day” to demonstrate SMT’s latest technology, applications and achievements. 

Result/impact: 
The integrated solution, application and services DKSH provided have strengthened SMT’s position in the aerospace and aviation industry. SMT now offers competitive, high-technology solutions of ultra-precision parts in the market and serves both domestic and international customers. 

I would say that ten other machine tools cannot compare to one KERN machine. The solutions provided by DKSH help us resolve our challenges, meet the exacting standards and position ourselves as a leading manufacturer in the industry.
