The 3M Petrifilm Aerobic Count Plate provides total aerobic count in as little as 48 hours. A red indicator dye in the plate colors all colonies red for better contrast and easier colony counting. Each plate contains a water-soluble gelling agent, nutrients and indicators in a dry, shelf-stable format. The indicator dye colors all colonies red, and the top film traps the gas produced by the coliforms. Gas trapped around red coliform colonies indicates confirmed colonies.
3M™ Petrifilm™ Rapid Coliform Count Plates are designed to provide fast, accurate results in detecting coliform contamination.
Coliform colonies may begin to appear at 6 hours of incubation as discrete yellow zones indicating colony forming units (CFUs). Presumptive coliforms may be be recorded at 14 hours. Confirmed coliforms will appear as red colonies associated with gas after 8 – 24 hours of incubation.
The 3M™ Petrifilm™ High-Sensitivity Coliform Count Plate accommodates 5 mL samples and detection of low levels of confirmed coliforms in 24 hours.
