The new DKSH distribution centers have been ensuring the supply of essentials in various critical consumer categories, while adapting to the Indonesian consumer's behavior and preference changes.
Media release
Jakarta, Indonesia, October 21, 2020 – DKSH Business Unit Consumer Goods, a leading partner for Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) in Indonesia, has established several new distribution centers in Indonesia this year. This includes distribution centers in Jakarta, Toraja in South Sulawesi, Amurang in North Sulawesi and three chambers in Padang, West Sumatera island.
These uncertain times have changed Indonesian consumer behavior, with higher purchases largely due to essentials such as groceries and household supplies. Consumers are hunkering down for a prolonged period of financial uncertainty, hence spending on basic needs has traded down to more value for money products. Through PT Wicaksana, DKSH's trusted subsidiary, the new distribution centers have been operating as centers of redistribution during this pandemic to ensure supply continuity around the products in high demand from communities.
The products consist of affordable essential groceries from well-known brands that are familiar already to Indonesians. Both the Jakarta and Toraja distribution centers store mainly food and beverage necessities to households, including personal health and hygiene products. The three new chambers in Padang, West Sumatra are strategically located close to the main port of Tanjung Api-Api, with sufficient storage capacity for basic essentials for the region, while the Amurang Distribution Center in Sumatera currently focuses more on the household category.
Alex Wong, Director, Supply Chain Management Partnering, FMCG, DKSH, commented: “Standing tall for over 30 years in Indonesia, PT Wicaksana's connection to the community is indisputable. We follow and observe strict health protocols, leading to no supply chain disruption, enabling on-time delivery of pharmaceutical and other basic consumer needs. Our plan is to continue in this area of social impact by empowering the distribution channels with supplies of their products, remain highly protective of our local workforce in accordance with DKSH and international standards of worker health and safety measures. In the upcoming near future, we have plans in place to better serve more consumers in more regions – so that everyone can get through these challenging times.
