DKSH Empowers Education and Community Bonding Through Social Impact Initiative in Malaysia

For the seventh consecutive year, DKSH Malaysia and SUKA Society have collaborated to promote literacy and educational equality among the indigenous community. This year’s collaboration saw an increase in sponsorship, expanding the number of preschools covered under the program.

Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, August 12, 2024 – DKSH Malaysia, a leading partner for businesses seeking for growth in Asia and beyond, has continued its transformative social impact initiative. For the seventh consecutive year DKSH has collaborated with SUKA Society, a non-governmental organization dedicated to safeguarding and advocating for the best interests of indigenous children to broaden educational access. As part of its “All-Round Improvement in School Education (ARISE)” social impact initiative, DKSH Malaysia organized a special visit to its adopted Orang Asli preschool in Kampung Pisang, Slim River, Perak.

The partnership with SUKA Society has been crucial in ensuring the success and effectiveness of DKSH Malaysia’s ARISE program, which seeks to bring about sustainable educational change in rural areas with limited access to education. Through this program, DKSH Malaysia now sponsors eight schools benefiting around 160 preschoolers from the indigenous community, aligning with DKSH’s sustainability strategy on making a positive local impact.

Over 50 dedicated DKSH Malaysia employees from Klang Valley came together for this visit to bond with the preschool children and enhance their learning environment by painting a beautiful mural on their school walls. The volunteers engaged in interactive activities and paper plate mask designing with the children to brighten their day. Additionally, the volunteers brought boxes of pre-loved clothes, collected from the recent clothing drive campaign of DKSH Malaysia Consumer Goods Logistics, to further support the villagers’ well-being. DKSH Malaysia also donated essential items such as window curtains, storage containers, and other necessary supplies to the preschool.

The success of the visit was significantly boosted by the generous sponsorship of products from DKSH’s clients and brands, including Kansai Paint, Bahlsen, Doritos, Pharmaton, Lay’s, Maestro Swiss, and Oatly. DKSH Malaysia sincerely appreciates these sponsors for their kindness and generous contributions, as these donations have brought smiles to the children’s faces.

Anderson Selvasegaram, Executive Director of SUKA Society, stated: “Our continuous collaboration with DKSH Malaysia has been pivotal in supporting the education of Orang Asli preschoolers. This partnership has brought significant educational opportunities to these children by giving them access to education they wouldn’t have had, and we forward to together in the future to bring lasting improvements to the communities they serve.”

Cikgu Umi, head teacher of Kelas Komuniti Kampung Pisang, Slim River, Perak, said: “The visit has brought so much joy and inspiration to our children. The support from DKSH and its sponsors not only enhances their learning environment but also shows them that they are valued and loved. Thank you for making a difference in their lives!”

Sandeep Tewari, Head Country Management and Vice President, Healthcare at DKSH Malaysia, added: “At DKSH, we strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others in line with our sustainability objective of making a positive local impact.
