Revolutionary Coffee Machine Brews Up Increased Sales at Convenience Stores in Taiwan

An established convenience chain store in Taiwan discovered that sometimes all it takes is an innovative coffee-making machine to help them keep customers happy, expand into a new service segment, and increase their customer base.



From its beginning in 1978, our customer has grown to become one of the largest convenience store chains in Taiwan. The stores continue to innovate and introduce a broad selection of products, new convenient services, and thematic marketing campaigns that change the definition of convenience stores in Taiwan.

While successfully transforming the convenience retailing industry with new experiences, they also shoulder the role of a responsible corporate citizen by devising sustainable managerial strategies to become an environmentally-friendly enterprise.

 

Challenge

The main challenge faced by the customer was that the temperature of the coffee coming out from their previous machines was quite high at around 88 degrees Celsius. And it was taking too long to lower the temperature of the drink to make iced coffee.

In addition, the customer’s stores were planning to use transparent cups to put the iced coffee in to make the product look more attractive, but this was not possible as the transparent cups were deforming given the high temperature of the coffee.

 

Approach

To truly understand the stores’ issues with the beverage temperature and taste requirements, we went through nearly a year of product testing and equipment trials. The result: a perfect coffee-maker system that was able to reduce the coffee temperature to below 50 degrees Celsius.

While achieving the right temperature, the coffee-making machine was also able to simplify the workflow at the stores and enhance the quality and taste of the iced coffee served.

 

Result

Beyond successfully reducing the temperature of the drinks, the new system was able to reduce the coffee-making equipment’s downtime and enhance workers’ productivity by 35 percent.

The new machine also helped increase our customer’s revenue by nearly 250 percent. More importantly, they are now producing a more consistent and tastier coffee for consumers at their stores.
