DKSH, the leading Market Expansion Services provider with a focus on Asia, collaborated with WWF-Malaysia as part of its sustainability effort to raise awareness of hawksbill turtles, a critically endangered marine turtle species in Malaysia.
Media release
Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, August 27, 2018 – DKSH, the leading Market Expansion Services provider with a focus on Asia, partnered with WWF-Malaysia on a marine turtle awareness campaign where DKSH's employees volunteered in WWF's marine turtle nesting monitoring program in Melaka. Concurrently, DKSH donated MYR 20,000 to WWF-Malaysia in support of this program.
As a company deeply rooted in the communities it is active in, it is part of DKSH's sustainability effort to create positive impacts beyond business activities. The company creates opportunities for development across society through different sustainability projects in Asian countries.
WWF-Malaysia's marine turtle nesting monitoring program comprised several educational activities to inform about its sustainable efforts to help people and marine turtles coexist. In that context, DKSH's employees visited the Turtle Conservation & Information Center in Melaka, which is managed by the state Department of Fisheries.
Siti Norazliyana Ali, Team Leader of Melaka for the Marine Program, WWF-Malaysia, said: “The Department of Fisheries, with funding support from WWF-Malaysia, engages local communities as marine turtle guardians. In that function, they monitor the nesting beaches every night to minimize egg poaching and also assist in the collection of biological data of the nesting turtles. DKSH's generous donation supports funding the local community in this job.”
“DKSH has a strong volunteering program where our 3,000-plus employees throughout the country actively engage in sustainability activities centered on three key pillars of education, health and environment,” said Nicholas McLaren, Head Country Management, DKSH Malaysia.
“Out of the seven marine turtle species in the world, only four species come to our shores to nest, and they are critically endangered because of human activities, predators and global warming. We are happy to support WWF-Malaysia in its environment-conscious initiatives with hopes to raise awareness of the magnificent marine turtles in Malaysia,” McLaren commented.
