With the Empyrean, PANalytical has set the new standard for a multipurpose diffractometer. In developing the ultimate X-ray platform for the analysis of powders, thin films, nanomaterials and solid objects, the PANalytical R&D team has redesigned all key components of the X-ray diffractometer from the ground up.
It is PANalytical's answer to the challenges of modern materials research, where the lifetime of a diffractometer is considerably longer than the horizon of any research project.

This allows users to switch between different applications in a matter of minutes, making the Empyrean a real multipurpose diffractometer.

Empyrean Alpha-1 is configured with a unique symmetric Ge monochromator (Johansson type) giving perfect Cu or Co Kα1-only Bragg-Brentano reflection geometry data for structure determination, with unrivaled resolution, excellent peak symmetry, and ultra-low backgrounds. Thanks to the PreFIX concept on the tube housing, users can easily swap between Kα1-only configuration to Kα1,2 in a matter of minutes.

Empyrean X-ray diffractometer is a versatile platform for non-destructive materials investigation. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scattering give insight into lattice parameters, crystallographic structures, oxidation stages, and particle size.
Empyrean XRD also has extensive in-operando capabilities to investigate the changes occurring in cathode and anode materials as the cell is charged
and discharged. Flexibility in X-ray source, optics, and detectors make the Empyrean able to investigate a wide range of battery cells.
