Armfield - Process Control Technology - Controller and trainer

Industrial Process Controllers. Each practical work study system consists of a bench top process demonstration unit and a control console, that contains the power supplies and interfacing for all measurement and actuation signals. Specific industrial controllers are available as accessories to further develop the practical instruction courses possible.

Available models

The PCT19BR Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) enables multi-channel compatibility with selected equipment from the Armfield range. Accepts six analogue and eight digital input signals, and provides two analogue and eight digital outputs for use in a wide variety of control loops.

Key Features

  • An industrial PLC (Allen Bradley SLCSOO) with RS485 and RS232 serial communications
  • Front panel connections for two digital inputs, two digital outputs, two analogue inputs, two analogue outputs, two voltage sources and a voltmeter
  • Rear panel connectors for six analogue inputs, two analogue outputs, eight digital inputs and eight digital outputs
  • Ladder logic software is provided

The PCT20H PID controller connects to selected Armfield equipment, providing an analogue input/output, relay and alarm sockets for a digital output control action. An RS232 port enables serial communications with a user-provided PC.

Key Features

  • An Industrial PID Controller (Honeywell UDC3300) with RS485 serial communications and incorporating adaptor to RS232
  • Includes software for serial communication training and introduction to SCADA
  • Front panel connections for two analogue inputs, one analogue output, one relay output and one alarm output

The PCT23MkII demonstrates a complete range of process control methods and strategies, including manual control, single feedback loops, cascade loops and distributed supervisory control of the process by a remote PC.

The system is a miniature replication of a true production process. The student is presented with real process control problems, with realistic dynamic behaviour and instabilities.

Key Features

  • A bench-mounted process plant trainer with multiple streams both interacting and noninteracting. The process plant incorporates a miniature three-stage plate heat exchanger heated from a hot water circulator, two independent feed tanks, a holding tube with product-divert valve and two variable-speed peristaltic pumps
  • Temperature, level, flow and conductivity control loops can be implemented
  • Manual control, single feedback loops, through to sophisticated cascade loops and distributed supervisory control of the whole process by a remotely located computer can be demonstrated
  • The effect of ‘dead time’ and heat recycle can be demonstrated
  • An electrical console provides measurement and control of the process plant and enables a variety of control techniques including manual operation, on/off control, control from an external signal and control from a PC or PLC
  • The equipment incorporates electrical fault simulation and control, data logging software, and a USB computer interface
  • Biopharmaceutical and Biotechnology
  • Chemical
  • Cosmetics & Personal Care
  • Education & Academics
  • Food & Beverage
  • Oil & Gas
  • Pharmaceutical
  • Powders & Pigments / Coating
ArmfieldThe Armfield Industrial Division designs and manufactures research & development systems, primarily for the food, beverage, dairy, edible oil and pharmaceutical industries. Used by many of the world's leading corporations, Armfield systems enable researchers and product developers to replicate full-scale industrial manufacturing processes on a miniature-scale in the laboratory.
