Leading consumer goods company gets logistics systems boost

Challenge

As the client wanted a change to its local logistics and distribution processes, they had set a short timeline of only three months for DKSH to take over its logistics management system from an existing solutions provider.

The client also wanted to take this opportunity to integrate its supply chain with its subsidiary; also a multinational corporation; and upgrade its operations to comply with Good Distribution Practice-ready standards. DKSH was required to re-engineer the logistics solution process to cope with client requirements, integrate with its subsidiary and most importantly ensure no business disruption during the entire process.

The client’s product portfolio also included registered pharmaceutical products for which timely obtainment of the related license was also a key challenge.

Approach

DKSH set up a project team that incorporated personnel from various functions and departments within the company to handle the onboarding of the client. The project team comprised of members from logistics and transportation, front-line warehouse staff, value-added services, client management and the regional Center of Excellence for sales and marketing.

The project team worked closely with the client’s team throughout the three-month period and designed tailor-made standard operating procedures and a logistics process workflow for the client.

Specialists from each function shared and contributed their knowledge and ideas to make a joint effort on designing the workflow.

Result

The client was successfully onboarded to DKSH without disruption to its business. The preparation and seamless handover plan allowed the client to experience over 99.9 percent of movement accuracy with no financial impact.

New tailor-made standard operating procedures and a specific logistics process workflow increased the effectiveness and efficiency of the logistics and distribution services, as well as the quality standards of the processes.
