Indonesia’s retail markets have seen unprecedented growth in recent years and show no signs of slowing down. Owing to improved communications and infrastructure development, the Indonesian retail landscape has seen many retailers expanding their operations.
For instance, well-known names like Indomaret and Alfamart are both opening more than 1,200 new stores each year. Indomaret now has more than 16,900 locations nationwide while Alfamart operates over 10,300 stores across the market.
In the digital scene, Indonesia is also expected to dominate ASEAN’s digital economy, accounting for 40 percent of all eCommerce transactions by 2025. Having generated USD 11 billion worth of online sales or roughly four percent of its total retail market last year, it is safe to say they are on the right track.
